HISTORY
Kastela`s are inhabitated since Prehistory. In 7th century Croats inhabitated this area. They were building churches and estates. During Croatian-Hungarian domination, Split and Trogir were leading battles for area of Kastel`s Bay. In 1420.
Venetia occupied this area and Kastel`s were under attacks by Turks. Forts were built in that time for protection from Turks, and today those forts have been developed into the villages. In 7th century peace came to this area and Kastel`s are developing.
LOCATION AND CLIMATE
Kastela (Central Dalmatia, Croatia) is common name for 7 Kastela`s located north from town Split in Kastela`s Bay, in Croatian region Central Dalmatia. 7 Kastela`s are: Sucurac, Gomilica, Kambelovac, Luksic, Stari (Old), Novi (New) and Stafilic. Connection with Split is Kastela`s road.
Kastel Sucurac is located on east of all Kastela`s. It was built in 1392. for defense of Split`s archbishop. It was two times burnt, by Split and Turks.
Kastel Gomilica was built in 16th century by Benedictine abbes. On underwater cliff, fort was built and finished in 1545.
Kastel Kambelovac is located 14 km from Split. It got name by Split`s nobels Cambi`s. It was built in 15th century.
Kastel Luksic is located 15 km from Split. It was named by estate Luksic, built by Trogir`s family in 15th century. It is the largest of all Kastels.
Kastel Stari (Old Kastel) is the oldest of all Kastel`s, located 16 km far from Split. It was built by Trogir`s nobel Koriolan Cipik in 1481.
Kastel Novi (New Kastel) is located 17 km far from Split. It has around 5200 inhabitants. It was built in a shape of fort.
Kastel Stafilic is located 18 km far from Split. It has beautiful beaches. Tower Rotonda on islet in Kastel Stafilic was built in 1508. by Stjepan Stafileo. It is connected with mainland by bridge.
Kastel`s Bay is located between mountains on north and Split`s peninsula and island Ciovo on south. Mediterranean climate enables growing winter vegetables and vine and olive growing, figs growing...
